AI in eHLbc Licensed Resources
Background
By request of the BC ELN Steering Commitee, BC ELN and eHLbc surveyed vendors in Spring 2026 to clarify how generative AI is being used across their products and services licensed through eHLbc or BC ELN direct or Consortia Canada deals. The survey aimed to find out what generative AI components exist in vendor products, whether the use of these components is optional or mandatory, and whether the components are opt-in or enabled by default.
Purpose
The survey results, compiled in a searchable spreadsheet, support eHLbc member organizations in making informed, evidence-based decisions about products and services.

Approach
The survey asked:
-
what AI components are in development or have been rolled out in vendor platforms and services;
-
which licensors these AI components apply to;
-
for a description of the AI component, where applicable;
-
whether the AI component is optional or mandatory as part of a licensing deal, and for clarification regarding this, where available;
-
whether the AI component is opt-in or enabled by default, and for clarification regarding this where available; and
-
for further information on the AI component, where available.
eHLbc staff supplemented and enhanced these initial responses with links to relevant public information pages to improve clarity and usability. eHLbc staff also added notes on more recently released generative AI tools or services and updates and updates to initial responses where available.
The AI in eHLbc Licensed Resources Spreadsheet presents the results of this initial data collection. Because generative AI technologies are evolving rapidly, the spreadsheet includes the initial date of data collection as well as a “last updated” date, and will continue to be revised over time.

Our intent is that this information will be collectively maintained. We welcome updates, feedback, suggestions, and contributions via the comments tool on this page, or via email at office@ehlbc.ca; please provide your feedback, suggestions, and comments below! eHLbc staff will update this spreadsheet at regular intervals with new and updated information.
We will continue to develop how this information is presented as we collect more information and as we prepare to launch the new eHLbc website. Furthermore, as this is an initial collection of information and an initial step into this work, we are also interested in hearing from partner libraries about further directions for this work. If you have comments, suggestions, or feedback about the information you would like to see eHLbc collect as part of this work in the future, please leave a comment on this page or contact office@ehlbc.ca .
Notes
Where possible, the AI in eHLbc Licensed Resources Spreadsheet lists information about each vendor product, regardless of whether products are accessed via a single platform.
A log in is required to view the spreadsheet and to comment. If you do not know your password, click the Request New Password link on the login page and enter your email address.
eHLbc members curious about or wanting more information on a particular generative AI component should reach out to the vendor to confirm.
