>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>v

Dear EBSCO Customer,

We have some important news concerning changes to two default settings on the EBSCOhost user interface, scheduled to be made at the beginning of August:

1) The Result List sort will be defaulted to Relevance, from the current Date Sort. Customer feedback has been overwhelmingly in favor of this approach to results, which we outlined in a communication this past January. For more information on EBSCO’s relevancy ranking and its impact on search results, please see this FAQ: (http://support.epnet.com/knowledge_base/detail.php?id=3971)

2) To accommodate the new Result List sort default, we will also be changing the default search option from phrase indexing (all terms entered in the Find field are searched as though enclosed by quotation marks), to W5, which means that all results that contain the terms entered in the Find field within five words of each other will be returned.

You may have changed your Result List default sort to Relevance back in January. If not, we will do this for you when we activate these changes. Or, if for any reason you do not want these two defaults to be applied to your profiles, you have the choice to opt out (not be included), by completing this simple form: (http://support.ebscohost.com/contact/relevancyranking.php)

Please act quickly, as we need to have your completed Opt Out form by July 31 in order to suppress these two popular changes in your account. Otherwise, you need do nothing and when the changes are activated, they will become part of your profiles. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Customer Satisfaction team through our support site at http://support.ebsco.com.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Dear EBSCO Customer,

As part of our continued commitment to our medical researchers, we are pleased to provide this advance notification concerning medical searching updates scheduled to be introduced in several weeks, to demonstrate our responsiveness to your requests. You will receive additional communications as the release date nears.

Some of the outstanding features of the upcoming software release are:

Streamlined Headings Functionality

Everything that transpires from the moment a user enters a term, to when the desired results are returned, will be part of a more efficient process. Many subtle changes will be combined to enable more streamlined, intuitive navigations for both novice and experienced users.

When a user creates a new query, all terms and subheadings will be clearly shown on the right portion of the screen in the new Search Box Builder tool. (Screen Shot Example)

Users who enter a keyword and want to search the database will be prompted to select a subheading before using the Search Database button, which will turn green when ready. (Screen Shot Example)

The Browse for button will be moved to the bottom of the screen to eliminate any confusion for those who instead wish to search the database straightaway, another benefit to new users.

There will be a direct link to a tutorial in the horizontal blue bar across the page, right from within the database! (Screen Shot Example)

Search History Enhancements

Users will be able to edit Search History and Alerts. Changes made to previous searches or alerts will be reflected in subsequent searches, whenever they contribute to the new search.

Over the coming months, we will be responding to many more minor enhancement requests and as always, we welcome your feedback. Please visit EBSCO’s Support Site to view a collection of screen shots that demonstrate the look and feel of these upgrades, on this page. Note that there may be minor changes to some of the screens during the final software development phase.
